Testing Resistance Control

Here's the best way to get a baseline of whether your trainer is controlling resistance.

Device connections are tricky and there are a lot of variables that can affect their optimal performance. For testing to see if the trainer is effectively controlling resistance, here's a great test:

  1. When entering a workout, take a pause on the device connection screen.

  2. Connect your devices as you normally would, ensuring that the trainer is enabled for resistance control - top right quadrant is green.

  3. In the middle of the top right quadrant, you'll notice a grade simulator:

  4. With your trainer control enabled, you can begin pedaling, and you should feel some light simulated road resistance at "0%," similar to riding on a flat road.

  5. While continuing to pedal, you can toggle the up arrow to increase the grade. When you get to 4% or 5%, you should really feel a significant load from your trainer.

  6. If you're not feeling heavy tension at 5%, it's a clear indicator that your trainer is not engaging in a control capacity. Here's an article on advanced device connection support.
